WordPress Tip – Delete Unused Themes

Being a responsible blog user will keep your blog and your visitation relevant and visited

grey WordPress Tip Delete Unused Themes

With the ever-changing world of technology, it can sometimes be very tricky to keep up with the challenges.  Although there are a mountain of ‘to-do’s’ and fixes, one sure-fire way to keep your blog relevant and functional is with a few simple measures.

I’m addicted to finding and figuring out all things ‘blog’.  I have had to join discussions, research fixes and modifications as I have navigated through this constant learning process. Consistent being the power word!

As WordPress has continued to evolve, and as many new gadgets and apps have been added to their list of options, I have found a few hints to keep my site at its peak performance.  One of the greatest insights I discovered was to:

Delete unused themes

Here are a few of the reasons why it’s so important to clean-up your site from time-to-time and make the most of your WordPress blog:

Your website will load faster-

When unused themes are removed, it allows your website to load faster.  It isn’t encumbered with the unused code that isn’t current.  A faster loading website is far more attractive to blog followers.

Makes your search engine visibility much greater

Similar to having your page load faster is the importance of visibility.  Unused themes and outdated or irrelevant material keeps the search engine technology from recognizing your blog as active.  If the technology doesn’t recognize you as active, your internet relevance is decreased greatly.  Your name will come up much less frequently whenever anyone looking for information through content enters a search.  Visibility is vital to a blogs existence.

Unused themes that contain errors might violate  W3 (World Wide Web) standards

Although there are no true ‘web police’ at this point in the technology world, there are definitely regulations and standards.  As new standards are rolled out, many of the software developers are adding updates and fixes to ensure that their products and the products of their software users are up to standard.  Unwanted themes can contain errors and bugs, which left unpaired, can be in violation of code standards.  Violations can mean being blocked by the search engines, which renders your blog inoperable.

A validator is a software program that can check your web pages against the web standards. When using a validator to check HTML, XHTML or CSS documents, the validator returns a list of errors found, according to your chosen standard.                                                                                                          www.w3schools.com

Retain Qualified WordPress Assistance

I suggest finding a respected and highly qualified WordPress web developer familiar with HTML and CSS on hand.  Although WordPress presents itself as user friendly, there are times where familiarity with HTML programming and CSS will be the difference between a blog that sees a great bit of traffic and one that is bogged down with spaces and errors.

Spaces and Errors

Another important reason to delete your unused themes is allowing the ability to keep the look of your page and its contents fresh.  Because unused themes can contain spaces, indention’s and tabs that can add to your load time, it doesn’t make for a highly optimized site.  You definitely want your site to be highly optimized and regularly visited.

I know that all of the ‘tech-lingo’ can sound intimidating, but I know that you want to deliver the best and freshest content for your blog. By following a few tips to assist you in cleaning up your site, your blog can remain quick loading, visible through search engines and regularly visited.

3 simple tips to stay motivated and feed your fledgling blog

grey 3 simple tips to stay motivated and feed your fledgling blog

I came to the realization this morning, that I have actually made 13 blog posts since I started this blog. Quite a feat for this radio talk-show gal who’d much rather talk than write, simply because it’s much more comfortable.

Although I have a long way to go, such as becoming more consistent in my posts, I am proud of this accomplishment, and if you are a small business owner with a fledgling blog like mine, you should be proud of your accomplishments too, however small they might be.

I’d like to share 3 simple tips to stay motivated and feed your fledgling blog.

1.     Read, read and read some more

I find motivation in great articles and features. My Google Reader is packed and organized with more than 400 of my all time top favorite sources, and I devour my feed several times a day. Some I share via social media but most, I take in internally and use to grow my own knowledge and business and ultimately share with my beloved clients.

2.     Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Beating yourself up for a few missed posts or finding spelling errors after the fact is non-productive. Yes, having a blog editorial calendar is important, but sicking to it can sometimes be tough for a small business owner who is writing for their own blog. Like the song lyrics say, “I get knocked down but I get up again…”, simply get back on track as quickly as you can.

3.     Write when you feel like it

Being that writing for me is a challenge, I find what works best for me is to write when I feel like writing and don’t stop till the ideas stop! I usually find myself writing about 2 articles in one sitting, after giving the ideas time to simmer in my mind. When I scheduled time to write, I found an empty brain and fidgety self. Scheduling it just doesn’t work for me.

13 posts and counting for me. What keeps you motivated to feed your small business blog?

To Your Small Business Success.
